No one wants to talk about death, but we never know what the future has for us. I have lost both of my parents. It is a hard thing to go through. On top of the grief, you have to then deal with all the paperwork, insurance companies, and funeral costs. It can make your head spin! How can we make things easier on our loved ones? Having a current will, life insurance policies, and your wishes known are all things that help – but if something should happen to me, my kids would have no idea where to start looking for information. I know exactly where everything is, but they wouldn’t have a clue! Over the next few weeks, I’m going to put everything in one file. I’ll make a checklist of who to call (with phone numbers, policy numbers, etc) and what to do. I’ll have all the information on any assets I have, as well as debts. They will know where to find user names & passwords for online accounts. It will still be a lot of work for them, but they won’t have to guess on where things may be or wonder what they should do. It will give me peace of mind knowing that they will be able to manage these things with the help of family members, my accountant and/or attorney. If you need any help with getting your financial information together – give me a call. I would be happy to help. If you need to update your will or have any questions regarding your financial situation, I can refer you to a credible attorney, accountant, or financial advisor.
